Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) is the term used when discussing the spectrum of feelings individuals experience during pregnancy and the initial year postpartum. An estimated 1 out of 5 parents report feelings of anxiety and depression due to the hormonal shifts of sustaining life pregnancy and postpartum. Studies have shown doula support decreases developing PMADs by providing informed emotional support and physical relief.
Through the state-funded PICHC program of Dutchess-Ulster we will be offering two doula scholarships annually to 2025. The PICHC program is a voluntary in-home service program for women identifying individuals, ages 14-48 that seek support through emotionally vulnerable experiences.
